Norfolk Maps Mobile Signal Using Bin Lorries
Mobile coverage is being mapped across Norfolk using council fleet vehicles including refuse lorries, in one of the county's most comprehensive connectivity surveys.
Norfolk County Council has launched a mobile coverage mapping exercise using its fleet of refuse lorries and other council vehicles to carry Streetwave’s measurement hardware across the county.
The initiative takes advantage of the fact that council waste collection vehicles already travel extensively across Norfolk’s road network, including rural lanes and villages that are rarely covered by traditional measurement methods. By fitting Streetwave sensors to these vehicles, the council can collect comprehensive coverage data at minimal additional cost.
The resulting data will be used to identify blackspots, engage with mobile network operators and provide residents with accurate coverage information through a public-facing tool.
